Helping families realize the dream of homeownership is my passion. Over the years, I have been able to assist many families obtain financing, many of them for the first time, and it never gets old. To me, it's always been more than a job. The satisfaction and pride I feel each time one of my Borrowers becomes a Homeowner is indescribable. Each one is an emotional investment for me as every Borrower is more than just a loan, they are friends, neighbors & my community.
My extensive experience as a Loan Officer and knowledge of the industry allows me to tailor each loan to meet the specific needs of each individual. Everyone’s story is different, so no one loan will fit everyone’s needs. My job is to find that perfect fit.

About Jim
Jim got into the mortgage business in 1986, right at a time when the world was entering a recession. Interest rates were around 10 per cent; FHA loan limits were $67,500 (conventional were $133,250); and there were still NON-QUALIFYING assumptions! It was at a time when 1 out of 10 banks were failing: almost 1,500 in total (only 43 banks failed during the Great Depression!) Foreclosures had hit all time highs from 1986 thru 1988 (click here for more information). Major droughts were hitting our farmers and Black Monday hit in October, 1987. So he wonders why everyone spends so much time concentrating on lenders going out of business and foreclosure rates when the cause of both is limited to a single culprit: subprime lending! How can we miss something that shouldn’t have been here in the first place?
Jim has built his career focusing on putting people into loans that meet their needs, with a commitment to service that will create solid and long-lasting relationships today and for generations to come. From those values he has built a business that earned him the honor of being named one of the country’s top loan officers by Mortgage Originator Magazine since 1999. (He was first recognized as ranking #1 in his company about ten years prior to that.) Jim was one of the first Colorado loan officers hired by WR Starkey Mortgage in 2000. Prior to that, he was with First Horizon Mortgage Company for over 12 years. This is were he would have the good fortune of meeting and working for Bill Starkey Jr., the current owner and CEO of WR Starkey Mortgage.
Jim is an Air Force veteran where he served as an air traffic controller. He has two degrees, one in education and one in accounting. He applies his past experiences to the mortgage business everyday: he is good with numbers, educates clients about their financing options, and never panics when there is a lot of activity “flying” around. His assistant for the past twelve years, Michelle Wood (who is also his daughter) manages his file process keeping business turbulence out of their world and landing files safely at the closing table way ahead of schedule! This organization gives Jim the opportunity to visit the golf course or spend time with his grandchildren, both of which are favorite past times for Jim when he’s not meeting new home buyers or working referrals from his database of over 3,000 families.
